How to Automatically Remove Silence in Premiere Pro

Pauses are where energy leaks out of a talking video. A half-second here, a breath there, and a five-minute clip feels like eight. Trimming them manually is doable but soul-crushing: find the gap, razor both ends, delete, ripple, repeat. Do that eighty times and you've lost an afternoon.

What “silence” actually means to an editor

Silence isn't truly zero — it's audio below a threshold you decide, lasting longer than a minimum duration, with a little padding kept so cuts don't sound clipped. Get those three numbers right and the cuts feel natural; get them wrong and you either miss pauses or chop off breaths mid-word.
